Dr. Thomas Carr founded
Chicago Podiatric Surgeons in 1993 in the Stone Medical Building
on North Sheridan Road after having worked with other area
podiatrists. This event was the beginning of a long series
of patient relationships and a new way of thinking about
patient care. From the beginning CPS has put the patient
first. The bottom line is patient satisfaction. Dr. Carr
sought out other physicians and staff who would were caring,
professional, and knowledgeable. This “CPS Quality” is
not easy to come by. Patient care begins with the first phone
call a patient makes, and it is important that whomever answers
that call makes patients feel welcome and at ease. It isn’t
enough for the medical staff to provide the best technical
care available, they also need to understand the condition
from the patient’s perspective. At CPS no condition
is ever thought of as “routine.” Although many
common conditions are treated on a daily basis it is very
likely the patient being treated has never experienced it
and will have very non-“routine” concerns.
In
1999 a second location was added in the Pittsfield Building
in the Loop that allowed for greater flexibility in treating
patients. In 2000 River North Surgical Suites (RNSS) was
established to better serve the surgical needs of patients.
The practice continued to grow at a rapid pace. Additional
medical staff was added to support the two offices. However,
it soon became apparent that the practice was outgrowing
the two locations. Chicago Podiatric Surgeons was faced with
the question of whether adding another location would be
the best solution for the expanding practice. Another location
would help serve more patients, but it would also impose
more limits on when patients could be seen. The medical staff
simply couldn’t be in all places at once. The decision
was made to look for a new office space that would best meet
the needs of all patients.
In April 2005 a brand-new facility
was opened in the River North neighborhood. The Stone Medical
Building and Pittsfield Building offices were closed and
the 467 W. Erie Street location was opened without any loss
of service to patients. The new facility was designed to
meet the needs of the patients and included in-office physical
therapy and state-of-the-art surgical suites.
Additional
Medical staff were added to support the new facility, including
certified podiatric medical assistants and a licensed massage
therapist. In July 2005 Dr. Travis Jensen joined Chicago
Podiatric Surgeons. Dr. Jensen has a special interest in
diabetic wound care and limb preservation.
